As a mixed media artist, Paul layered a variety of different artistic and mundane materials - including cement, mud, glitter, rope, plexiglass and found objects - atop a base of acrylic paint, usually on wood, canvas, or masonite. He also frequently incorporated reproductions of appropriated classic works of art and occasionally his own, earlier works. Using juxtaposition and the contrast of high and low materials and imagery, he created multi-dimensional works where disparate elements, each substantial in their own right, acquire new & dynamic meanings relative to one another.
Selections from several series are below, and many more works exist that defy easy categorization. To view or inquire about others, please contact the estate.
