Working on paper was a critical part of Paul's artistry, both in terms of his growth and experimentation as an artist and the development of his large scale mixed media paintings, many of which incorporate completed works on paper.
Hundreds of never-exhibited works on paper were discovered and catalogued after Paul's passing.. The earliest paper works, completed during the 1960's and his time at The Cooper Union and Hunter College in NYC, stand in stark contrast to the complexity of his later work, culminating with his self-titled series "Multiple Narratives," which involved extensive rounds of dense mark-making, layering, reproductions of appropriated works, and painted elements. Select works on paper were further developed into mixed media works with the addition of fully constructed wood frames, extensively painted by the artist.
A small selection of works on paper can be found in the categories below. With the exception of "Multiple Narratives", these groupings have been organized and titled by the estate. To view or inquire about works on paper, please contact PG Studio.
